ENGLISH: In class this week, we will be putting the final touches on our five-paragraph descriptions. Monday and Tuesday will involve editing and peer evaluation, and final copies will be written in class on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday, we will be studying commonly confused words.
HOMEWORK: On Monday, Dec. 7th, we will have a quiz on p. 491-496 of our text.
READING: Now that we have finished our study of the play <The Diary of Anne Frank>,we will have the open-book test on the play on Monday, Nov. 30th. We will then begin viewing the movie version of the play. On Thursday, we will compete for a place in the school-wide spelling bee.
HOMEWORK: Each evening this week, students should be reading their library books. The book test will be on Mon., Dec. 7th.

I class these two days, we will continuing our work on writing a five-paragraph description of our favorite place. I do not anticipate any homework being assigned these two days.
READING:
We have concluded our reading of the play <The Diary of Anne Frank>.
On Monday, we will take a test (open-book) on the play.
On Tuesday, we will visit the library to check out new books. The deadline for having these books read is Monday, December 7th. There will be a test on the books on this date.
The homework this week is to read the library book checked out.

READING:
In class this week, we will continue our reading and study of <The Diary of Anne Frank>.
On Friday, we will take a novel test on the library books checked out on 11/10. Students need to have their books read by this date and will need their books in class on Friday in order to take the test.

ENGLISH: This week in class, we will continue our study of phrases and begin work on pronoun-antecedent agreement.
HOMEWORK:
MONDAY: Study for tomorrow’s test on Chapter 20 – Phrases.
TUESDAY: None
WEDNESDAY: Holiday – Veteran’s Day
THURSDAY: Exercise 19, p. 567.
READING: In class, we are reading and studying <The Diary of Anne Frank>.
On Tuesday, we will make our first visit to the school library, where students will select a fiction book. The book must be read at home and complete by Friday, November 20th. On this day, students must bring the novel to class to use on a book test. The books must be brought back to class on the following Monday in order to be collected and turned in. Every other Tuesday will be the class date to revisit the library and check out new books. Only students returning their books on loan will be allowed to check out a new one. Any student absent or failing to return their book on time will be responsible for obtaining an appropriate book on their own for the next scheduled book test.
HOMEWORK:
Selected pages from <The Diary of Anne Frank> may be assigned to be read as needed, depending on how much material we are able to cover in class each day – and this may widely vary from day to day.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10 – NOVEMBER 19: Read and have library book completed by Friday, November 20th (and bring book to class on this date).

In class this week, we will begin our study of <The Diary of Anne Frank>. Our skill focus will be making inferences and drawing conclusions, recognizing words within context that reveal particular time periods and cultures, examining literary elements, and analyzing how an author reveals character.
HOMEWORK: Note: Due to the length of the play, some homework reading of the play may be assigned as needed, depending on how much the class is able to cover each day.
